Ups and Downs

Well it seems the case of the missing cell phone has mysteriously been solved. It appears that Alex may have made some last minute moves in the 24th hour to get his phone back. He had it back this morning. Apparently "Mishka" is the head of boys syndicate here and he makes all the rules. He is the biggest and has his own bike. I liken him to Tony Soprano and his Escalade ESV. Make Tony happy and all is well.
He's actually a nice kid. Some strategically placed smiles and a "good boy" from us seems to get him to soften up to us. Or is it a ruse?..... Stay tuned, I may yet need to slide him some candy under the table for protection $$$. Advice from Dief and Davis may be good afterall. Who knew?
Yesterday afternoon was brutal for the two of us.
It was very nice outside probably around 65 degrees. So the orphanage naturally decided to let all the kids outside to play. Seems logical. BUT IT DIDN'T QUITE WORK OUT FOR US!!.
You see our two little ones had a life before we came into the picture and although candy, chocolate and toys can go a long way. It sometimes pales in comparison to playing with their friends on a nice spring day. We didn't know what to do. Whenever Alex decided to bolt away from us his sister naturally wanted to follow him. Then the little ##$%&** decided to kick his ball over the orphanage fence and put up his hands like it was an accident. So I went out to get it, turned around and he was gone. I saw that he took off to the "don't go there area" and Judy had to try to scramble to grab them both. Our solution was to take them back a little early. We just went back to our apartment and started to prepare two nooses and unstable chairs to climb on to. But our senses came back and we decided to try to hang in for another day.
We actually had a great afternoon. Our landlady's son-in-law and his wife showed us around the town and it was pretty cool. They took us to the edge of the huge river that borders Nikopol. I look off about a half mile into the water and wonder what I am looking at. "Is that a Nuclear facility I am looking at, I ask myself". Andre then tells me 2 seconds later "that is our Nuclear facility, it has 6 reactors. We don't really want it here because of Chernobyl, but what can you do".
Yikes, it look pretty ominous and amazing at the same time. Just sitting there waiting for another famous Russian "test" to occur.
The fitness club is pretty awesome, it has everything we need, 4 treadmills a bike and weights and machines. I ran and it felt great. This will be my new home away from home. It also has a bowling alley but I did not see any Steve Deckers hanging around, not even a Greg Riley in the bunch. We may even attempt to come out at night and play some pool. Who knows.

We have to leave as our 80 cents per hour internet access is coming to a close. I may try to post again today. I sure wish I had instant messenger here. We are off for pizza and beer (pretty good actually) and then off for round two with the kids.
